Awareness a the key to lasting change
Without awareness, we don’t know that anything needs to be changed.
Without awareness, we are running on auto-pilot.
Without awareness, our lives will continue to look like they have always looked.
If you want to create lasting change in your life, then you need to start with awareness.
The moment we become aware of a behaviour, or pattern that we no longer want in our lives, is the moment we can begin to make a change.
The biggest mistake that we make is to get upset for noticing that we have slipped back into an old way of being that we no longer want. When we beat ourselves up for being in a place, we only further perpetuate the issue.
If you want to make a change in your life then start by setting an intention to become aware.
The moment you notice this behaviour or pattern that you want to change showing up in your life – stop – and acknowledge your awareness. Stop – and praise yourself for having the awareness.
Next, set a new intention:
From this moment forward I intend to __________
Then start behaving and acting in this new way.
If at any time you notice, you become aware that you have slipped into your old pattern – then stop – recognise, acknowledge and praise yourself for your awareness and set your new intention again.
Some of our old patterns and behaviours may be deeply entrenched, and therefore you may need to repeat this process a few times.
The thing that I have noticed though, is that we begin to notice what we don’t want quicker and this means that we are getting closer to over riding the old pattern and replacing it with our new intention.
