It wasn’t until I moved to Australia that I learned about the “Tall Poppy” syndrome.

Looking at Wikipeada:

The tall poppy syndrome describes aspects of a culture where people of high status are resented, attacked, cut down, strung up or criticized because they have been classified as superior to their peers”

Yet what I have seen here is that it doesn’t only apply to high status people, it appears to apply to everyone. It is even present in the school system.

It seems that it is seen as “bad” to stand out from the crowd. Even competition is discouraged as this creates winners and losers.  It was meant to promote equality but some people feel that is promotes mediocrity.

In my one-on-one work with many Australians, I quickly came to see that the tall poppy syndrome has created a whole culture of people who find it difficult to see their own worth and to stand up tall and share their unique gits and talents with the world.

Growing up in South Africa I do remember that bragging about what you had achieved in life was seen as a “bad” thing. Yet to succeed in South Africa you really need to be tough.  You need to almost fight for your survival.  This often breeds an unhealthy culture, where many people are prepared to stand on anyone on their way to the top.

The world around us definitely promotes rising to the top, and this often promotes unhealthy ways of trying to get attention and attempting to rise above others.  Is there then a way for us to stand out without bragging or without being seen by others as a threat or someone that needs to be cut down?

The only way to stand out

When you understand that each person is unique, that there really is no one like you, then it is easy to see that you have no competition, and that you don’t really need to strive to be better or have more than anyone else, to reach the top.

Each one of us has a unique set of skills, attributes, talents and perspectives that they are meant to bring to the world.  It is by being the YOU that you are meant to be, that you get to share this with the world.

Only when you can stand in your unique frequency of energy and allow your energetic imprint to be shared with others will you truly stand out in a healthy and harmonious way.

We are all looking for our purpose in this world.  A way to have meaning. A way to be of value. A way to make a difference.

Your purpose is : Just BEING YOU

  • All there is – is being YOU.
  • Living as YOURSELF.
  • Being an expression of your UNIQUE frequency.
  • Being a living example of what it is to be YOU.

When you live as YOU, you are being purposeful, you are providing meaning, you are contributing value, you are making a difference.

You probably wont see it in the moment, yet others will.

When you are living in alignment with your true self, Your light, your energy will transmit.  It will reach others that need it most.  It will make a difference.

All there is, is for you to be YOU.

By just being yourself with no agenda is when you have the most impact on the world
